Linda Gonzales

HELPER - Gladys Linda Gonzales, affectionately known to many as "Grandma Linda," died Aug. 13, 2008 at her home from Alzheimer's. She passed away peacefully from a broken heart after the death of her son, Richard, in June 2005.

At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving daughter, Gloria; beloved granddaughter Julie; and our new dear friend, Anita Salazar.

She was born in Eaton, Colo., on April 16, 1919 to Macidonia Trujillo and later adopted by Louis Gonzales and his wife.

Very little is known about her childhood other than she was born of Spanish and Greek ancestry. In 1938, she married Lino Gonzales in Raton, N.M., and, together, they shared 50 years of marriage before his passing on March 20, 1988.

She had many roles in life, but her most honorable one was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She loved her Catholic faith and the parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Helper.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind her daughter, Gloria Regis of Helper; granddaughter, Julie (Jon) Meine of Ohio; beloved daughter-in-law, JoAnn Gonzales; and her grandchildren, Matt Ramirez, Mariaelena Montoya, Lino (Stephanie) Gonzales and Benita (Mat) Brewer. She is also grandma to Callie Allgood, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, all of Salt Lake City; and four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Preceded in death by her husband, Lino; son, Richard; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Montoya.
