Carbon Country Club hosts Pepsi tournament

A young amateur tees off on the 18th hole as he finishes his round during the 2008 Pepsi Cola Eastern Utah Amateur.

The 2008 Pepsi Cola Eastern Utah Amateur was held on Saturday and Sunday Aug. 9 and 10. The tournament had 88 players who participated in the event compared to last years 97. "We had a rather large rain storm on Friday night which caused about 15 players pull out of the event," said Head Pro, Tom King. "Also the golf course and range was flooded due to the storm, however Justin Bosone and his crew did a fabulous job in getting the course back in shape on Saturday morning." First flight handicap was 0-7, second flight was 8-12 and third 13-24. "I'm sure that some of the out of town players were playing in the Roosevelt Open, that was held on the same weekend which we think accounted for the loss in participation," said King. The weather for the first round was great, there were some clouds to keep it nice and cool and the rain stayed away. The low round for day one was five under par, 65 shot by Tadd Cox who had a two shot lead over Jeff Westergard Jr. who shot a 67.

Day two had some great scoring as well as Tadd Cox who shot a six under equaling 64 to blow the field away and win by nine strokes over Zach Thompson who shot a 68, 70 for a two day total of 138.
