Two good teams squared off Thursday night in Castle Dale and it was Emery who came out of the fray the winner. They beat the Lady Dinos 43-52 and earned the region 8 title again this season.
It was Carbon who took control first if only by a bucket. Both team's offenses were clicking and the score was 13-11, Dinos at the first break. Emery stepped up their defense and edged out Carbon by three at the half.
After the break, the Carbon offense began to sputter. Coach Carlson tried to get the team to set up their plays, but she felt like they were running down court and seeing what would develop. The Spartan lead widened to seven at the end of the third period. In the fourth, the offense for the Dinos got back on track, but they could only match the intensity of Emery and in the end finished off with a nine point loss.
The Spartans were very effective in shutting down the Carbon outside game. Megan Garvin decided she would not be denied and found a way to get things done. She did well penetrating and made things happen. Garvin finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds. She was also 7-7 from the line.

Julia Potts remained sidelined with an injury and Patricia Smith did a good job in handling the ball in her place. She finished with 12 points, mainly as a result of driving through traffic. Smith had five steals as well. Julia Potts will probably remain out for the rest of the season.
With only one region game left to play, Carbon's fate for the tournament is sealed. No matter what happens in the Tuesday night game with Juan Diego, Carbon is seeded in second place. This secures them a home game in the first round of the tournament this Friday night. The game will be against either Ogden or Union. This will be at the Carbon High gym at 7:00.
With a win at home the team will travel up to the E Center and they will run into the Wasatch Wasps for their next game.
