Clifton Elliot of Price was bank fishing at Huntington North State Park on the night of July 26. He sat at the edge of a small cove on the northeast side of the reservoir. Using a Shakespeare spin-casting outfit, he baited his hook with half a nightcrawler and tied on two and a half feet of leader, a barrel sinker, and eight pound monofilament.
Elliot cast the crawler into about 10 feet of water and allowed it to sink to the bottom. He hooked the cat around 8:30 p.m. and landed it an hour later.
The channel catfish measured 34 1/4 inches (tape-measured by Brent Stettler of the Division of Wildlife Resources) and weighed 24.69 pounds. By comparison, the state record channel catfish was caught at Utah Lake in 1978. It weighed 32 lbs. 8 oz. with a length of 39.75 inches.
