An e-mail scam that leads taxpayers into thinking they are being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service could lead to identity theft if computer users are not careful, reported Congressman Jim Matheson's office this past week. The e-mail, purporting to be from IRS Criminal Investigation falsely states that the recipient is under a criminal probe for submitting a false tax return to the California Franchise Board. An e-mail such as this that comes to residents should be forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org for investigation, but should not be opened. The e-mail has been sent to individuals as well as business taxpayers.
During the June 4 Carbon County Recreation and Transportation Special Service District meeting Helper councilmember Dean Armstrong approached the board concerning costs associated with finishing the Helper pool project.
Armstrong informed the council that finishing the project will include a $53,000 cost that is presently unfunded.
That cost will include a state-of-the-art accounting system along with finishing the inside of the building. The service district released $60,000 to get the pool up and running, with recommendation to reapproach the CIB concerning landscaping costs.
