Joe Martinez

PRICE - Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jose "Joe" Adolfo Martinez passed away peacefully at his granddaughter Kathy's home on his 95th birthday.

He was born Feb. 17, 1912 in Chama, N.M., to Eloy and Lucy Romero Martinez. Married Seniada Valdez Dec. 4, 1928 in Gallina, N.M.; she died Oct. 25, 1986.

Member of the Catholic Church. Longtime resident of Carbon County where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He shared a special love for the outdoors, gardening, fishing and camping with his family. Joe had a great eye for livestock, especially fine horses.

He will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Kathy Jo and Bobbi Jo and their families for the exceptional care they provided to their grandpa.

Survived by two daughters, Effie Roberts, Salt Lake City, Celia Martinez, Sunnyside; three sons, Pat (Carol) Martinez, Amadeo Martinez, Joe A. Martinez Jr., all of Price; and his longtime friend, Rachel Sanchez, Price. He was also survived by two sisters, two brothers, 35 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife and five sons.

Funeral Mass Friday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m., at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Thursday evening, 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at Mitchell's Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.


Willis Olson Jr.

PRICE/DELTA, Colo. - Willis Olson Jr., age 75, passed away suddenly Feb. 18, 2007 in Delta, Colo.

Born Sept. 6, 1931 in Huntington, to Willis Olson Sr. and Jennie Hinkins. Married Alice Jackson Dec. 22, 1953.

Willis and Alice had two sons, and during their child rearing years their home was shared with love for 28 foster children.

Willis honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the VFW Miners Post 2379 of Price. During his working years, he worked in various coal, uranium, potash and trona mines in Utah and Wyoming. In 1989 he retired from U.S. Fuel, where he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Hiawatha Local 6363.

After their retirement, Willis and Alice loved to travel. In the summer and fall months they would stay in Price. During the winter they would spend time Quartzite, Ariz., and later move to their home in Desert Hot Springs for the rest of the winter. After Alice's passing in 2000, Willis remained in Price to care for his mother until his health no longer permitted. In 2002, he underwent triple bypass surgery and moved to Delta, Colo., to be with his son.

Willis was a member of the LDS Church. He was a fun loving person who always put family first. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping was his passion.

Willis made the best of everything, and on the morning of his passing he was getting ready to go ice fishing at Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Survived by son, Willis John (Jamie) Olson, Delta, Colo.; brother, Robert (Darlene) Olson, Spring Glen; sister, Colleen (George) Farish, Helper; daughter-in-law, Mindy Kessler Olson; grandchildren, Christina Laree (Shaun) Peterson, Willis Lee, Robert "Bobby", Joe Preston, Tyler, Jimmy and Mandy Olson; great-grandchildren, Kaneisha Preston, Rylee Cripps, Alice Olson Peterson, Shaun Peterson, Trevor Peterson; lifelong friend and uncle, Art (Frances) Hinkins, Salt Lake City; best friend, Leroy (Mary) Hunt, Fort Bridger, Wyo.; and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by wife, Alice; son, Jack Olson; parents; and foster son, Johnny Hutchins.

He will be truly missed and loved by all who knew him.

Funeral service Saturday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 E. Main Street in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Grand Valley Cemetery, 3 p.m., Moab.


David Wilde

PRICE - David "Crockett" Wilde, age 70, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family.

He was born April 16, 1936 in Hiawatha, to Earl and Ora Christensen Wilde. Married Gail Lowe March 9, 1957 in Hiawatha; she passed away June 16, 2000.

"Crockett" was a member of the Price Elks Lodge 1550, where he was involved in many of the activities at the lodge. He was a retired member of the UMWA Hiawatha Local 6363. He was a skilled mechanic and auto body repairman.

In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and he played an occasional game of golf until his health failed.

"Crockett" enjoyed building mini cabins, lamps, cutting wood, playing pool and driving his '56 Pontiac.

He was always willing to help his friends and family. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and will be dearly missed.

Survived by three daughters, Gaylynn Sterling, Laughlin, Nev.; Tammy (Neal) Warner, Grace (Paul) Gutierrez, both of Price; brother, Robert (Renee) Wilde, Salt Lake City; sister, Emily Chandler, Delta; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Gail; daughter, Denise; and brother, Bert Wilde.

Memorial service, Friday, Feb. 23, 1 p.m., at Price Elks Lodge. Family will be at the Elks Lodge one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.


Bill Sund

Bill Sund passed away on Feb. 18, 2007 in a car accident.

Bill was born and raised in Price and Wellington where he graduated from Carbon High School. He then continued on to LDS Business School in Salt Lake City. Bill and Karen were married March 18, 1995. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Feb. 9 2001.

We all miss and love you Papa.

Bill is survived by mother, Ann Simpson; long time sweetheart and wife, Karen Sund; four children, Kori Roswell (Rory), Karla Luing (Craig), Dan Kierstead (Alisha) and Krista Kierstead. Bill has 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces. Bill loved all of his grandchildren but was blessed with the opportunity to raise one of his granddaughters, Jessa, she is truly the love of his life. He has two brothers, Ed (Barbara) and Jim Sund. Preceded in eeath by stepfather, Leslie Simpson.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 23, 11:00 a.m. at the Thayne LDS Stake Center in Thayne, Wyo. Viewing from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Graveside service, Saturday, Feb. 24, 1 p.m., Wellington Cemetery with viewing from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fausett Funeral Home.


Alene Rachiele

PRICE - Alene Kay Wadsworth Rachiele passed away Feb. 18, 2007 in Salt Lake City.

Born Nov. 5, 1947 in Price, the daughter of Norma and Ralph Higginbotham. She was an active member of the LDS Church and was a resident of Price all of her life.

She is survived by daughter, Diedre (Rob) Gray; and two grandchildren, Caleb and Peter.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Feb. 22, 1 p.m. at Price City Cemetery.
