Caption:
Straight Canyon below Joes Valley Reservoir could become one of two new habitats for river otters over the next decade. The Emery canyon and the Weber River are the sites chosen by the Utah Wildlife Board Aug. 19. Both habitats were identified as the best for putting otters. If populations reach the point where trapping can be allowed, it could be a new opportunity for trappers in Utah. The plan has provisions for dealing with otters that get into private fish farms and hatcheries. The new plan should be available at wildlife.utah.gov/pdf/otter_plan.pdf) by the week of Aug. 30.
