Carbon's Chris Coleman goes for the ball as an opposing player dives for safety. Coleman, a senior, is heading to Florida on June 12 hoping to land a scholarship or catch the eye of a major league scout. Coleman's talents on the diamond was noticed last season as he played for the Helper American Legion team. That led to an invitation to a try-out for the Florida showcase. Fifty of the state's finest gathered at Salem Hills to show off what they were good at. Coleman is a first baseman and a power hitter. Only 10 made the final cut and scored the coveted invitation to Florida. This past winter Coleman dislocated his shoulder in a snowboarding accident and has not been able to bat for the Dinos. When asked if he would rather be noticed by a pro-scout or a college recruiter, he answered without hesitation, "I would like to get a college scholarship." He is expected to pay his own way to the Florida showcase. A donor came forth and helped cover most of his expenses and he has been able to raise the rest.
