The College of Eastern Utah will present a reading with poet Lance Larsen on Nov. 9.

The reading is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in the CEU Alumni Room.

The event is open to students and the general public free of charge.

Larsen lives in Provo, where he is the director of English graduate studies at Brigham Young University.

Larsen's poems have appeared in the Paris Review, Kenyon Review, New Republic, Threepenny Review and Times Literary Supplement.

Larsen's first poetry collection, Erasable Walls, was published in 1998.

The poet's second collection, In All Their Animal Brilliance, won the 2004 Tampa Review prize.

Larsen's poetry has received numerous additional awards, including fellowships from the Cultural Arts Council of Houston, the Utah Arts Council and the Sewanee Writers' Conference.

In 2003, the poet received the Writers at Work fellowship in non-fiction and, in 2004, he garnered a Pushcart Prize in poetry.

An opportunity to meet and speak with Larsen will follow immediately after the reading. Refreshments will be served.

The CEU Alumni Room is located in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus in Price.

In addition to the reading, Larsen will conduct a poetry writing workshop for all interested writers.

The poetry writing workshop is slated on Nov. 9 from noon until 1:15 p.m.. in the conference room at the college's student center.

Space is limited and Castle Valley residents interested in attending the poetry workshop are encouraged to call Kent Templeton at 613-5365.

Interested local writers may also contact Nancy Takacs at the college.
