Carbon golf off to fast start

Carbon golfers play their rounds during a meet at the Mills ite Golf Course. The team took first in the meet.

The Carbon golf team's first tournament was held on Aug. 17 at Brich Creek Golf Course in Smithfield just north of Logan. This is the same course where the state tournament will take place on October 9-10.

The team finished the tournament in second place with a team score of 335. Team leaders were Brett Johnson who shot an 81, Shayne Burke who shot an 83, Ween Ngamketkamol who shot an 84 and Corbin Black who shot an 87.

Other team scores were Kevin Johnson with a 90, Jason Child and Jordan Pinedo both with 92's, and Ryan Nelson with a 97.

Team totals for the match were: Juan Diego 315, Carbon 335,Delta 341, North Sanpete 391 and Emery 394.

On Aug. 24, the team traveled to play their second Region 8 golf tournament at Millsite Golf Course, home course of Emery High School. Carbon finished in first place with a team score of 323.

Scoring leaders were Ween Ngamketkamol with a 79, Jason Child an 80, Shayne Burke had an 81, and Ryan Nelson had an 83. Other scorers were Brett Johnson with 85, Jordan Pinedo with 87, Kevin Johnson with an 88, and Geoffrey Vogel with a 93. Corbin Black played junior varsity and shot an 88 and Dylan Olsen played JV and shot an 84.

Team totals were: Carbon 323, Juan Diego 327, Delta 335, Emery 375 and North Sanpete 388.
