Pedestrian-train accident injures one, halts rail traffic for hours

A Union Pacific train engineer inspects cars and rails after a train accident reportedly injured a 30-year-old man on Sunday evening. Witnesses reported that the man's arm had been amputated near the elbow by a train near the D Street crossing in Helper. It is unclear what the man was doing near the tracks, though initial reports indicated that he may have been placing coins on the track when the train started moving. Helper fire department and police responded to the scene and the victim was transported to Castleview Hospital by Carbon County ambulance. Train traffic through the Union Pacific rail yard came to a halt as law enforcement and train officials investigated the accident.
