North Helper fire consumes ground cover along tracks, fills valley with smoky haze

Fire chief Mike Zamantakis battles a blaze that occurred last week in north Helper along the railroad tracks. As of press time, officials had not determined how the fire started. The blaze took out a lot of weeds and brush, filling the entire valley with a smoky haze.
