Helper's Aaron Sandoval dives for third base during a recent home game. The team will meet Murray on Friday night in Helper.

The Helper American Legion team continued league play last Wednesday and walked away with their second straight victory.

It was another offensive dual as Helper put up 10 runs on seven hits. Bountiful out hit Helper with 11, but only converted them into eight runs.

Aaron Sandoval continued to be hot at the plate going 2-3. The hits were both singles, but he scored two runs off the hits.

Joe Via was 1-2 on the day but drove in 3 RBI's.

Helper committed four errors in the game, but luckily they didn't prove to be too costly as Helper came out on top 10-8. They move to 2-0 for region play.

The team then traveled to Caldwell, Idaho for a weekend tournament. Coach Jeff Cisneros was generally pleased with his team's performance at the competition. Helper placed fourth out of 10 teams. They went 2-3 in the tournament. Cisneros was able to give many of his younger players some valuable playing time. For some this was their first chance to swing a wood bat in American Legion competition.

Because players were getting experience, the team did not hit as well as they usually do. They also committed too many errors which cost them dearly.

The team drew Nampa, Idaho for their first game. Sandoval led off with a double and then stole third. Joe Via moved him home on a fielder's choice. That proved to be the offensive highlight of the game for Helper.

AJ Mitcheson started for Helper and was in control for the first two innings before he began walking the opposition. None of the pitching staff could find the magic to stop Nampa from scoring.

Nampa defeated Helper 12-1.

Friday had Helper playing a double header. First up was the Boise Capitals.

An offensive explosion in the first inning propelled Helper to a win. After the first inning scoring was scarce for the team as Boise nipped away at the lead. The final score was 10-9 with Boise going down to defeat.

Mt. View from Meridian, Idaho dismantled the Helper team in the second game. They crushed Helper's AL entry 10-0. Pitching again cost the team a win.

Three errors for Helper also contributed to the loss.

Saturday's first game of the day matched Helper up against the Boise Seminoles.

The Seminoles were a strong team in the tournament. Helper played well and the pitching was strong in this game.

Ron Herrera threw four very good innings. The relievers were able to come on and hold down the scoring. Helper was able to push over four runs on four hits for the day and defeat the Seminoles 4-3.

In Helper's final game of the tournament, they met the home team, Caldwell. Helper fell behind early with Caldwell scoring two in the first inning, one run in the second and three in the third.

Behind 6-0 as they entered the sixth inning, Helper's bats came alive and they pounded out seven runs to take the lead. However, the come from behind victory eluded them as they were unable to hold Caldwell in the final two innings. Caldwell put two on the board in each of the final innings to secure a 10-7 win over Helper.

Helper will play three games this week including heading toward powerhouse Taylorsville. On Friday night they will return home to take on Murray at the park in Helper.

All three games will be league games. Friday night's game will begin at 6 pm.
