After hitting record high levels around the Memorial Day weekend, gas prices in Carbon County and Utah are stabilizing.

But the costs per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline remain significantly higher than the prices at the self-serve pumps were a year ago, according to the latest report from AAA Utah.

The current average price for per gallon for regular, self-serve gasoline in Utah registers at $2.90. The current average per gallon cost represents a one-cent drop from last month's price, but remains 68 cents higher than a year ago, pointed out AAA Utah.

In Carbon County, motorists are paying $2.89 per gallon at the local gasoline pumps.

Nineteen states have prices higher than Utah, but the national average per gallon cost is $2.90. The national average price is down three cents from last month, but is 77 cents higher than a year ago.

"After six years of gasoline price increase, consumers are having a more and more difficult time absorbing these costs into their budgets," commented Rolayne Fairclough, AAA Utah spokesperson.

"It is the cumulative effect of these high prices that are hurting individual families and businesses and the high prices may be starting to have an even greater impact," pointed out the AAA Utah representative.

Prices in the Utah cities surveyed by AAA have remained relatively stable, with one exception - Moab.

Moab motorists are enjoying a 16 cent drop in the price of a gallon of regular, self-serve gasoline from last month. The current price in Moab is $2.94 a gallon.

The prices in Salt Lake City and St. George have dropped two cents from the costs reported in May.

The current pump price in Salt Lake is $2.85 per gallon. The average price in St. George is $2.96.

Logan, Ogden and Provo have the same prices as last month.

The current pump price in Logan is $2.91 per gallon. Ogden's average price is $2.90. Provo's motorists are paying $2.88 a gallon.

The only city surveyed by AAA that saw an increase since May is Vernal. The average gasoline price in Vernal increased one cent to $2.92 a gallon.

Motorists traveling in the intermountain west will experience fluctuating prices, indicated AAA Utah.

Idaho's pump price increased two cents to the current cost of $2.91 per gallon.

Montana's average gasoline price jumped seven cents to $2.83 per gallon.

Wyoming's drivers are paying six cents more at the gasoline pumps compared to last month's average price. The current price in Wyoming is $2.97.

Colorado's average price for one gallon of regular unleaded gasoline increased one cent to $2.84.

Arizona, Nevada and California's prices have all dropped 12 cents per gallon since May.

The price in Arizona is $2.97.

Nevada's price is $3.09.

California drivers are currently paying an average of $3.26 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline at the self-serve pumps, concluded AAA Utah.
