Wrestler Daxton Guest works for an escape.

The state championship in freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling was hosted at Carbon High on April 7 and 8.

On April 7 the wrestlers competed in Greco Roman style. Boys came from all over the state to defend their titles resulting in very tough competition. The state championship brings out the best athletes to compete.

Each weight class and division crowned a single champion. Carbon had three wrestlers win in the Greco Roman style.

Bryce Jackman and Caleb Williams retained their titles that they won in the 204-05 tournament. Johnny O'Hearon also took first in his first year competing in the Greco Roman style.

Kenny Wood and Wyatt Martinez each placed second. Nico Velasquez was able to take third. Tyler Procarione and Casey Iodesetto captured a fourth place finish.

Saturday's freestyle competition was equally as fierce. The Carbon Raptor team was up to the competition with four of the team taking home a championship. Jackman, Williams and O'Hearon doubled up their gold medals with another victory apiece.

Nathan Velasquez joined them in the winners circle with his own first place finish. Williams and O'Hearon were returning champions from last year in this style as well.

Martinez again took second place. Nico Velasquez and Wood placed fourth. Fifth place finishes were awarded to Connor Fausett, Jax Kraync and Dallen Mower. Tony Velasquez finished in sixth.

The Carbon Raptors Youth Wrestling Club had an awesome year. The success of the team was one of the best they have ever had.

At the end of the folk style season the Carbon Raptors had four wrestlers ranked in the top six in the state. After the state tournament, the team still has three ranked in the top six.

Coaches Montel Jackman and Brock Fausett, along with many dedicated fathers are in the wrestling room at least three nights a week with the boys.

Their hard work and commitment has paid off. This year's club has produced five national champions, two multi-national champions and four state champions.
