Deadline for FYI - is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week's FYI. All items are subject to editing.

Carbon County Humane Society - offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month in the basement at 5 South Carbon Avenue in Price. Contact the group at 637-0588 for appointments.

Family Support and Children's Justice Center - is updating its community resource book. Residents may contact the center at 637-0281.

Immunization clinic hours - Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Castle Country Habitat for Humanity - will work Saturdays to frame, roof and winterize a wheelchair accessible house in Castle Dale. Volunteers and board members are needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans, sponsor a fundraiser or get applications by calling Katherine Foster at 650-0074.

Head Start - Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3. The program offers prenatal health and education services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. For qualification information, residents may contact Head Start in Wellington or in Price, at 613-8494.

East Carbon Neighborhood Watch - Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon residents are urged to attend Neighborhood Watch meetings the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center .

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Residents should bring all documents pertaining to questions. For information, call the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.

Price Main Street program - The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need volunteers may contact the Price office at 637-9118 or the East Carbon office at 888-2223..

Cans for CARE-A-VAN - Donations assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Aluminum cans may be dropped off at Howa's on Carbonville Road. Local residents may also call the program at 637-9488 to make pick up arrangements. Cans must be bagged.

Utah Youth Village - Local residents interested in becoming proctor parents may contact Lisa Peirce at 1-888-226-6557.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation -needs adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Doghouses needed - Carbon County Humane Society members will collect donated doghouses at local residences.

Castleview Hospital Auxiliary - The Pink Ladies are accepting applications for volunteers. Contact Sherline Riche at 472-5278.

Girl Scouts - Adults or girls ages 5 to 18 interested in Girl Scouts may contact Patti Rigby at 637-1613 after 6 p.m.

Helper community development committee - meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium

Children's story, craft hour - CEU Museum will host children's story and craft hour Fridays at 2 p.m. in the discovery room. Call the museum at 637-5060 for information.

CASA volunteers needed - Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator, at (435) 381-5595.

Carbon Family Resource Center - Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. CFRC is a free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830. Volunteers are needed.

CEU Library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.

Foster grandparents - Volunteers needed. Individuals who are at least 60 years old, have a limited income and time to share with children may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week. For information, call the program at 613-0987.

Rape crisis hot line - Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.

Golden Rule Mission - Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to the Golden Rule Mission in Helper.

Foster Care Foundation - Residents interested in becoming foster parents may contact Heather Ogden at 636-0210.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Books for shut-ins - Helper City Library will deliver books to shut-ins. Call the library at 472-5601.

Price library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Story time hours are Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Toddler time is Monday at 11 a.m. at the library and Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at Castle Valley Center.

Book sale scheduled through June 9, excluding weekends. Volunteers are needed. Call the library at 636-3188.

The library will be closed May 27 to June 11 for inventory and will reopen June 12 at 9 a.m.

Tom McCormack will be at the Price Peace Gardens June 12 at 1 p.m. to start the summer reading program.

Summer reading begins from ages 0-16.

Family Support & Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes, divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281.

Helper library - is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Saturday. The library offers patron internet accessible computers. Hours are subject to change for more convenience. For information, contact the library during business hours at 472-5601. The library will be partnering with Price City library's summer reading program.

Square dancing -is scheduled the first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Karl Peterson Center located at 107 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. For information, call the senior citizens center at 637-0136.

Women's Bible study group Interdenominational, interactive study sessions are Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the lower fellowship hall of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Bibles are necessary and a concordance would be helpful. For information, contact Leslie Caza at 637-1162.

Food handlers classes - will be taught in Price on June 14 at 9 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District, 28 South 100 East. Contra Dance - Dancing will be the second Saturday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. A beginners session is slated at 7 p.m. at the CEU ballroom.

Sunnyside 56th Annual Rodeo - the rodeo will be July 7 and July 8. Sign up with Georgia or Tiffany at 435-336-2563 June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. The royalty contest will be June 25 at 5 p.m. at the Sunnyside arena. Royalty consists of queen, first and second attendants 13 years or older and two princesses 12 years or younger.

Events

Single adults ATV ride - is slated June 17 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Mayors Park on State Street in Ferron. Participants ages 35 to 65 should bring lunches. Dinner will be provided at the park after the ride.

Car show - will be presented June 17 at Helper City Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors are being accepted.

Helper Monte Carlo Night -The community development committee will present the activity June 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Helper Civic Auditorium. The event will include door prizes, a prize drawing and live music by Rock N' Country. For information, call Debbie Jones at 472-0255..

CEU Prehistoric Museum community art show - Featuring art from faculty and local artists, the exhibition will be through June 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 7 days a week at the museum.

Canyon River Runners Art Show - is slated until June 30 at John Wesley Powell museum, 885 E. Main Street, Green River.

Castle Country Horse Show Association - Shows are slated at the Carbon County Fairgrounds on June 10, July 1, July 22, Aug. 13 and Sept. 2. Registration is at 8 a.m. Fees are required.

Clothing giveaway - is scheduled July 14 at the family support and children's justice center. The center is accepting clothing and school supplies.

Ancient Land symposium - is slated June 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the College of Eastern Utah's San Juan campus.

Western Mining and Railroad Museum Heritage Week- June 8, a history of the California Zephyr, 6:30 p.m., at the Rio Theater. June 9, Legends of the Lost Rhoades Gold Mine at the Rio Theater at 6:30. Downtown alive - no meeting this month. Next meeting planned for July 26.

Play Day - June 10, signups 9 to 9:30 in the Carbon county roping arena. Events; barrels, poles, keyhole, speed barrels, musical chairs, rock race and newspaper race. There is a fee for entry.

VFW field service officer - will be at the Price workforce center June 8 and June 22 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist in preparing and documenting applications for VA benefits.
