Mrs. Gutierrez's third grade class at Castle Heights Elementary school finished up a service project Tuesday afternoon by donated quilts and baby hats to the non-profit organization Newborns in Need. Carol Miller accepted the donation on behalf of her organization from the third graders. The project started as part of Mrs. Gutierrez's masters degree program. She needed to involve her class in a service project. The class decided on the group Newborns in Need to help. The entire class raised money to buy the fleece quilting material by recycling aluminum cans. Once they had gathered enough money to get the project started, they cut and tied seven quilts. Kaylee Hoyt made five more quilts at home and donated them to the project. She also knitted 12 caps for the infants to wear when it is cold. Jenna Hansen donated the fleece for three of the quilts the class made and added three knit caps of her own.
