HUNTINGTON - Alan Birch, age 42, passed away suddenly May 3, 2006 at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1963 in Price to Arthur "Bill" and Erma Cunningham Birch. Married Karryn Young Jan. 25, 1993 in Castle Dale; their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on Feb. 5, 2000. They later divorced.
Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Alan's family was his life and he was happiest when he was with his children. He enjoyed every moment he spent with his family and friends, and his fondest memories were those that he shared with Jordan, John T. and Gracie.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, riding horses, motorcycles, and spending time on the desert.
He is survived by children, Jordan Birch; John Taylor Birch; Gracie Birch; mother, Erma Birch, all of Huntington; six sisters and two brothers, Terri (Blair) Cook, Huntington; Gary (Kathy) Birch, Cleveland; Gloria (Joe) Neal, Illinois; Debra (Al) Wilcken, Salt Lake City; Linda (Marc) Stevens, Huntington; Evon (Joel) White, Price; Veronica (David) Ames, Huntington; Jerry (Mindy) Birch, Huntington; ex-wife, Karryn Birch, Huntington; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Alan was preceded in death by father, Bill Birch.
Graveside service Monday, May 8, Huntington City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
HELPER - Alice Janet Ortiz Vigil, age 53, passed away May 6, 2006 while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 11, 1952 in Albuquerque, N.M., to Arthur and Carrie Gonzales Ortiz. Married Elmer Vigil Nov. 11, 1970 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Alice's warmth and caring personality enabled her to make new friends wherever she went.
She had a great love for her family and was dearly loved by all who knew her.
She enjoyed decorating her home, shopping, going on walks, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Survived by husband, Elmer Vigil, Helper; daughter, Carrie (Shawn) Mecham, Spring Glen; son, Edward (Sylvia) Vigil, Los Lunas, N.M.; father, Arthur Ortiz, brothers, Albert (Sadie) Ortiz, Arthur (Sue) Ortiz, John Ortiz, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Lupe (Vincent) Bonilla, Belen, N.M.; and five loving grandchildren, Isabella Vigil, Albert Jeffs, Antonio Mecham, and Amber and Derek Fralick. She was preceded in death by mother; sister, Angie; and four brothers, Herman, Eddie, George and Ernie.
Funeral service, Tuesday, May 9, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery.
PRICE - Jack M. Vignetto, age 84, passed away at home May 2, 2006 "after a few too many birthdays."
He was born Nov. 4, 1921 in Helper to John B. and Gladys Smith Vignetto. Married Athena Georgedes Feb. 14, 1943 in Price.
Member of the Carbon Lodge 16 F&AM of Utah, where he was also a member of the El Kalah Shrine and York Rite. He was a life member of Price Elks Lodge 1550 and a member of the Carbon County Sheriff's Posse.
Jack loved the outdoors, skiing, fly fishing, hunting, and to his family he was "King Of The Cowboys".
His true love was his loving wife, Athena of 63 years.
Jack was a loving, caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by wife, Athena Vignetto, Price; daughter, Danielle (Brian) Bean-Schiller, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; grandson, Darren Bruce (Stacey) Bean M.D., Madison, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Parker Bean; and sister, Jill Crowfoot, Reno, Nev.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held Saturday, June 24, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Saturday one half hour prior to services. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
PRICE - Ken Konakis was born May 20, 1956 to Steven and Alicia (Crabtree) Konakis.
Graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco in 1974 and attended San Francisco State University. During college, worked for KGO-TV as a summer replacement and KTIM-FM radio.
Co-owner of Towne Bakery and Pizza in Price with father.
Moved to Sonoma, Calif., in 1982.
Operations manager for Innovation Molding. Longtime in automotive retail businesses, as general sales manager for Vreeland Chevrolet and Toyota.
Moved to Reno in 1992. Worked in management for Dick and Susan Donnelly in Reno and Sparks until October 1997 when the dealerships were acquired by Lithia Motors.
Served in a variety of management positions, in Reno, Nev., and Sparks, Nev., for Lithia, most recently as general manager of Lithia Hyundai of Reno.
Always tried to help others' careers and advancement, often before his own.
Avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, no matter how good or bad they were. Many frustrating hours listening to losing games, but always a true fan.
Ken enjoyed many hours restoring collector cars. His "other woman" was a 1955 Pontiac Star Chief!
He was devoted to his family and friends.
Ken is survived by wife, Denise (Pierce); ex-wife, Susan (Schultz); daughter, Kayla; son, Daniel; daughter and son-in-law, Tara (Kershner) and Ian Adams; mother, Alicia; sister, Amelia; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy (Baker) and Joel Parsons and Connie and John Grasso; as well as numerous "favorite" nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. Preceded in death by father, Steve; and son, Kenneth Paul.
Memorial services were Monday, May 8, at Mountain View Mortuary, in Reno, Nev. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
