Check regs before placing markers
Headstones mark the final resting place for residents who have passed away. But the stones often do not meet cemetery regulations.
Before placing a monument, tree, shrub or a physical marker on graves, citizens are required to obtain permission from cemetery officials.
In the event a monument fails to comply with cemetery regulations, including size restrictions, the marker or stone will be removed at the expense of the next of kin or family survivors.
To eliminate potential problems, citizens are encouraged to check before purchasing a graveside marker.
