Carbon County Youth Commission - Applications are being accepted for the Commission through April 21. This is a leadership opportunity for a maximum of 17 selected youth of Carbon County. This commission is designed to give Carbon County youth a chance to share their opinions, working with local government, on a variety of issues that effect youth in their county. Applications can be picked up from Sandy Lehman at the county commissioners office at 120 E. Main St., phone 636-3226, in Price.

Burn Period - for Helper City will April 3 through May 3, 2006. Burn permits are required and can be picked up for free at the Helper Fire Department or Helper Police Department.

Free Vaccinations - for children 0-35 months of age, at Helper Clinic, 125 So. Main, Helper, on April 12 from 2-4 p.m. Bring children's immunization card.

Eating Disorders Seminar - The Student Counseling Office at the College of Eastern Utah is sponsoring a seminar on eating disorders on April 20th from 5-6 pm in The Little Theatre. There is no charge to attend. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Tracy Kitchen at 613-5326.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration - at East Carbon City Park on May 6, Parade at 10 am beginning at Miners Food Town Store ending at Sunnyside Park. Free Screening - Baby Watch/Early Intervention Program, Emery School District Preschool, and Head Start will be screening children for possible admission/enrollment into any of the available programs or preschool at the Southeastern Utah District Health Office, 28 So. 100 East in Price on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call Head Start at 613-8494 ext. 101 to schedule an appointment or for further information. Round-up Day - presented by RUCD on April 10 at the Price Center, 745 East 200 North. Applications will be accepted during the open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children 0-3 and 3-5. Helper City Spring Cleanup - Spring Cleanup for residents of Helper City will be in effect the month of April. City crews will be picking up furniture, appliances, metal, cement and branches, which must be cut in 4 foot lengths. These all must be in separate piles. No cars or car parts will be picked up. There will be no backtracking after your week is done and stacks must be next to curb and off the road and sidewalks. New Immunization Clinic Hours - The Southeastern Utah District Health Department Price Clinic has new immunization hours. Immunizations will be given Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will no longer be a Thursday morning or Friday afternoon immunization clinic.

Habitat for Humanity - of Castle Country, an affiliate of Carbon and Emery Counties, is building a wheelchair accessible house in Castle Dale. Donations to help finish the roof and buy shingles can be sent to HHCC, P.O. Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Head Start - Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. The program offers healthy meals, snacks and busing in most areas, as well as activities to help children grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3, and offers prenatal health and education services, infants and toddler health services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. Free Legal Clinic - Utah Legal Services, Inc. is having a free legal clinic at the Price Courthouse, 149 E. 100 S., every second and fourth Monday from 11 a.m, to 2 p.m. If you have general legal questions or are filing paperwork and have some questions, come get help. Women's Cancer Screening - Testing, Easy as One, Two, Free. If you're 50 or older, you most likely qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer screening exam and a free mammogram. To find out call 637-3671. Women between 40 and 49 years old may qualify for a low cost exam.

Volunteers Needed - Pro-Care, an after school program in all Carbon County elementary schools, is seeking volunteer help. Volunteers will help out with daily activities and also substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. Any high school students and adults that like to work with elementary aged children are welcome to inquire. Must pass background check prior to volunteering. Training will be provided. CASA Volunteers Needed - Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Carbon Family Resource Center - now offering story time! Bring your preschoolers to Toddler Story Time every Wednesday at 11:15 am. CFRC is a free lending library open to everyone in our community. Our library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. Come in and see. CFRC is located in Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Dr., Price. Foster Grandparents - Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Family Support & Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. VFW Field Service Officer Visit - On April 20 a Field Service Officer from the VFW Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to qualify for assistance. The officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Services Center from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Please bring the following documents so that we may better serve you: DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates, children's social security numbers.
