FERRON - Una Barton Jensen, age 90, of Castle Dale, passed away March 16, 2006 in Bountiful.
She was born May 2, 1915 in Ferron, the first of six children to Owen Henry and Emma Zwahlen Barton. Una married Francis Ward Jensen on June 20, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Una was raised in Ferron where she graduated from Emery High School and later, from Brigham Young University.
As a long time educator, she taught school in Elmo, Emery, Orangeville and Ferron. Una was also the county librarian for 15 years.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many different callings.
Una was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a lifelong love of reading and enjoyed fishing with Francis.
Una is survived by daughters, Velma Jensen Oldfield of Centerville; Kathleen (James) Lemon of Roosevelt; brothers, Dean, of Draper; Kent of Visalia, Calif.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Preceded in death by husband, Francis; brothers, John and Gerald; and parents.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 21, at noon, at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment, Castle Dale cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
PRICE - Joseph Marretta, age 94, passed away March 14, 2006 in Price.
He was born Feb. 18, 1912 in Alton, Ill., to Augustino and Maria Sinatra Marretta.
Joe enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Dec. 28, 1941, soon after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served overseas 26 months in the American Theatre of Operation.
He worked as a controls checkout mechanic for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in Californian for many years before returning to Price.
Joe was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and loyal member of the Price American Legion Post 3. He enjoyed photography and rock collecting.
Uncle Joe will be dearly missed by his loving family and all his many friends and coffee buddies.
Survived by two sisters, Mary C. Falsone, Price; Frances Hurskainen, Salt Lake City; brother, Phillip Blanda, Peoria, Ariz.; special nieces, Teresa F. Allred, Charlene Lewis and nephew, Tony Falsone; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, and longtime friends. Preceded in death by parents.
Memorial service Thursday, March 23, 10:30 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Thursday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
CLAWSON - Jessie Louise Mortensen Shiew, age 49, passed away unexpectedly March 15, 2006 in Price.
She was born June 11, 1956 in Price to Andrew and Charlene White Mortensen. She married Doug Shiew in 1976 and spent their whole married life in Clawson.
Jessie's greatest love in life was her family, especially her little granddaughter, Jacey.
She felt very much at home in the outdoors, camping, four-wheeling or just spending time with her family and friends. She also loved reading and working in her flower garden.
Jessie is survived by husband, Doug of Clawson; daughter, Kristi and husband, Josh Perez of Clawson; granddaughter, Jacey Shiew; parents, Andy and Shaw Mortensen of Cleveland; brother, Les and wife, Suzy of Ferron; and sister, Cindy and husband, Troy of Rowlett, Texas. Preceded in death by son, Jason Shiew; and father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Letha Shiew.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 18, at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, 710 N. Center St. Interment, Cleveland cemetery.
PRICE - Jennie Alice Spigarelli, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in Price.
Jennie was born Feb. 21, 1914 in Kingston,UT to Alonzo and Jentje (Akkerman) Sudweeks. She grew up in Manti until 1933 when she married and moved to Carbon County.
She spent her early married years in the Carbon County coal mining camps and in St. George. In 1953 she moved to Price where she spent the remainder of her life.
Mom worked in a local flower shop for a number of years where she was well known for her talent and imagination in arranging floral pieces. With a hand saw, a paring knife and a couple of other old hand tools, she built her own closets, cupboards and tool shed.
She pruned her own trees and always kept a yard to be admired. Mom always wanted to be a farmer but circumstances never afforded her that luxury, so she took great pride and joy in her beautiful and productive gardens. If anyone could do it, mom could do it better.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was involved in many different organizations of the church. Jennie was an adored and loving mother.
Jennie is survived by children, LaRue Spigarelli, Melba (Bob) Henderson, and Marjorie (Dave) Paur; daughter-in-law, Patti Spigarelli; 14 grandchildren, 28 and one half great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Allie Goble Beckstead. Preceded in death by son, John Alonzo; parents; great-great-grandson; brothers, Calvin, Alvin, and Olaf Sudweeks; and sisters, Bertha Christiansen, Delma Hackwell, Verbena Christensen, Lola Pay and Ethel Cook.
Services will be Wednesday, March 22, 11 a.m., at the North Price LDS Stake Center. Friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and one hour prior to services. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
