Carbon will host its first home soccer game on Friday against Granite.

A new season for the Dino soccer team started out with some real promise.

Jake Malone, who has been with the team for one week, made nine saves to hold Union to a 4-4 tie in the teams first game last Wednesday.

On the other hand, Union's Owen Hullinger was a scoring machine as he kicked all four of their points into the net.

The Carbon scoring attack was a more balanced effort, however. Huston Lui, Samuel Madrid, Amtoni Teodorssyk and Nathaniel Woodward were each able to blow one past the Union goalie.

Carbon was behind 1-2 at the end of the first period of play. They added three goals to finish the game in a draw.

Even though this wasn't an outright victory, it is the first time in the history of Carbon boy's soccer that they did not start the season with a loss.

Coach Rex Jeppson was pleased with the team's first game.

As with most of the other Carbon teams this past year, he had lost several seniors to graduation and now has to work with a young and inexperienced team.

Carbon then headed to Moab for a weekend tournament, where the bitter taste of defeat caught up with them as Grand High School handed them a 4-3 loss.

In that game they stayed even in the first period of play against Grand. Each team hit a goal for a 1-1 tie.

Grand was a bit more aggressive in the second period and topped the Dinos two goals with three of their own. The 3-4 defeat gives the Dinos a 0-1-1 overall record.

The rest of the weekend play was postponed due to bad weather. The boys soccer team will travel to Grantsville on Tuesday for a 3:30 game.
