Women win one, lose three in late January non-league and league play

A trip to Rangley Colo. to play Colorado Northwestern Community College proved to be what the College of Eastern Utah women's basketball team needed earlier last month, but then in the last couple of weeks things didn't work out as well for the Lady Golden Eagles.
Against CNW, CEU had much more depth to work with and in the end it paid off. With good scoring contributions from the bench the Lady Golden Eagles scored their first victory in a number of games with a 99-51 passing of the Lady Spartans.
Jenny Fisco led the way for CEU with 13 points which included one three pointer.
The team shot well from beyond the arc. Of the teams total points, 33 points were the result of the long ball. Nine players from CEU were able to score from downtown.
Good defense also limited the scoring of Colorado to 31 percent shooting.
But the winning streak that the Eagles hoped for was short lived as the CEU women hosted Western Wyoming on Jan. 17.
A cold CEU women's team hit the floor and didn't put a point on the board for the first nine minutes of play. The team never recovered from the drought either as they fell 55-49. With the Spartans shooting 41 percent and CEU hitting a dismal 28 percent of its shots, the lady Golden Eagles never stood a chance.
Jana Glover was the only Eagle player scoring in double figures with 10 points for the night.
"Very poor shooting," was the way Coach Dave Paur summed up his teams effort for the night.
On Jan. 27 and 28 the team had to face a powerful College of Southern Idaho team at their home base in Twin Falls.
With an 8-0 perfect league record and a ranking placing them in the top 15 at the national level, the Lady Screaming Eagles proved how good they are by beating up on the CEU team 96-69 in the Friday game and then coming back and defeating the visitors 81-61 in the last contest.
The CEU Women's team is now 11-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
The team returns home to the friendly confines of the BDAC this weekend when they play Colorado Northwestern at home on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Tip off time is at 5:30 p.m.
