Idaho teams down mens team
|John Rogers (2) goes up for a shot against Northern Idaho.|
Life was not kind to the College of Eastern Utah's Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team during the first weekend of the month. First they lost to Southern Idaho 91-83, and then they got beat by North Idaho, 60-52.
On Jan. 5 they ran into the Screaming Eagles from the College of Southern Idaho. Tyler Kepkay and Tyler Billings led the Idaho team with 21 points each. CSI had five of its players scoring in double figures. Kepkay hit four of six shots from outside the line.
With the exception of Belford Williams who added 11 off the bench, no other player for CEU scored more than six points. CEU held it close the first half of play, trailing by one going into the locker room. The Screaming Eagles continued to shoot well, while CEU could only manage to hit their shots 40 percent of the time. CEU just could not run with CSI and lost by nine.
Then on Jan. 7 the Eagle watched as the Women went down to defeat in a heart-breaking overtime loss. When they hit the floor they were cold. They didn't make a point until about five minutes into the game and that score came on a free throw.
Two minutes into the game, Coach Zollinger sat the entire starting line up down to try and shake things up. The Cardinals built up a lead, but the Eagle came back to whittle away at it until they were down by only six at the half.
CEU continues their shooting woes and only managed to hit 32 percent in the game. NIC put another 40 points on the board in the second half to give themselves an 18 point victory over the Golden Eagles.
CEU did not have a single player in double figures for the game. John Rogers and Tyler Billings led the team with nine points. The Eagles bright spot was that they hit seven threes.
The Eagles will be on the road until February 3 when they will play Colorado Northwestern at home in the BDAC at 7:30 p.m.
