Senate confirms Harmond's appointment to district court
Deputy Carbon County attorney George M. Harmond Jr. discusses his Jan. 16 confirmation to occupy a judgeship on the 7th District Court during an interview Wednesday.
On Monday, the Utah Senate's judicial nominating committee voted unanimously to support Harmond's appointment to the district court bench.
The committee immediately forwarded the panel's endorsement to the Utah Senate for approval on Jan. 16.
When the matter was introduced on the Senate floor, all 29 state lawmakers voted to appoint Harmond to fill the 7th Judicial District vacancy created by Judge Bryce K. Bryner's recent retirement from the court.
'I'm very humbled about serving the people of southeastern Utah," commented Harmond. "But I'm very excited about getting started."
Arrangements for conducting the swearing in ceremony have not been finalized. But Harmond indicated he was leaning toward completing the process locally at the district court level.
