The newly filled Gigliotti Pond located in Helper will open to the public May 25. The opening of the pond will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by the grand opening of the site. The ribbon cutting will take place at 9 a.m. and the pond will be open to public fishing shortly thereafter.

The Division of Wildlife Resources will have extra rods, reels, tackle and baits for kids who do not have their own. Kids under 14 may fish without a license. Those who are 14 and older are required to have a license.

The pond is the first urban fishery in Carbon County and was made possible by private entities, government agencies, elected officials, sportsmen organizations and fishing clubs.
