A Golden Eagle defender tries to hold up one of the All Stars at the game on Friday night in the BDAC.

The College of Eastern Utah mens basketball team hosted the Utah All-Stars this past Friday. The Eagles jumped out ahead of the All-Stars early and held on to the lead throughout the game. In the end, CEU chalked up the win with a final score of 134-79.

Although the game was a pre-season contest, the Eagles displayed their talent and now can look ahead to the regular season which begins Dec. 1 in St. George.

During last week's game, several Eagle players stepped up and performed well. There were seven players in double figures and the team shot 57 percent from the field.

Leading the Eagles was Tate Sorensen who posted 24 points. Sorensen also pulled down nine boards to lead the team in rebounding.

Jeremy Lathen finished the game with 19 points and three assists. Lathen displayed his outside shooting skills as he went 5-5 from the three-point line.

Also posting double figures for the Eagles was Mike McCrary with 17 points, John Rogers with 14, Tanner Nicholson and Tyler Billings with 12 points each and Tyler Kepkay with 11.

The Eagles defense looked strong on the court as they pressed the All-Stars with man to man coverage. CEU finished the game with 15 steals and 26 defensive rebounds. Last season, the team struggled to pull down critical rebounds, but this season it looks as though the team will pick up boards a little easier.

Next on the Eagles roster is the Lower Columbus Tournament which will take place this weekend in Washington state. Then the Scenic West Athletic Conference will kick off their regular season Dec. 1.

The Eagles will host their first home game of the regular season Dec. 9 against Snow College. The team will also play Salt Lake Community College Dec. 10 at the BDAC. Game times are at 7:30 p.m. each night.
