Mary Falsone

PRICE - Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend, Mary Bertolini Falsone, age 84, passed away Oct. 16, 2005 at Castleview Hospital in Price.

She was born Oct. 9, 1921 in Storrs to John and Rosa Salvaterra Bertolini. Married Joe Falsone Feb. 14, 1940 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price; he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1984.

She was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Notre Dame Alter Society and the Moose Lodge. Mary worked as a maid at the Mission Motel and for the Carbon County Nursing Home prior to her retirement. She also helped with the Carbon County senior citizen group. Mary was a hard worker who devoted her life to her family.

Survived by four children, Mary Ann Milano, Spring Glen; Charles J. Falsone, Carolyn (John) Kantor, Catherine (Sheridan) Judd, all of Price; sister, Edith Dearing, Sandy; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband; parents; stepfather, Joe Andrezzi; sister; seven brothers; and son-in-law, Dwane Milano.

Funeral Mass Thursday, Oct. 20, 1 p.m., at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.

James Swearingen

PRICE/OREM - James F. Swearingen passed away at his home in Orem on Oct. 14, 2005 after a long battle with emphysema.

Jim was born to James C. and Lorainne Swearingen on Dec. 25, 1940 in Waukegan, Ill. He married Linda McKendrick on June 11, 1977 and they had three wonderful children, Marchanda Quercia of South Weber; Zack Swearingen of Grand Junction, Colo.; and Tyler Swearingen of Orem. Jim also has a son, Billy Swearingen, from a previous marriage. Billy resides in Richmond, Ind.

Jim spent the majority of his adult life working in the drywall business and owned and operated a drywall company for years. Due to health problems, he worked for Wal-Mart in Price for seven years, from where he retired in 2003.

Jim was a great fisherman and enjoyed the time that he and his wife spent together at their favorite fishing holes.

The biggest joy in Jim's life was his children and eight beautiful grandchildren. He often said that it was his love for his family that kept him going.

Jim is loved and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is also survived by siblings, Gary Swearingen, Janie Devers, Kathy Schneider, Rose Marie Waggoner, Herbert Schneider and Dennis Costomiris.

Special thanks go to Dr. Richard Holmes for the wonderful care and attention given to James.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E. Center Street, Provo. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday afternoon from 12:30-2 p.m. Condolences may be left at

Randy Fletcher

SPRING CANYON/PROVO - Donald Erickson Fletcher, 68, passed away Oct. 13, 2005 in Provo due to complications post surgery.

He was born Dec. 23, 1936 in Spring Canyon to Emmet Leonard and Iola Erickson Fletcher and raised by his foster parents, Dell and May Hiatt. He married Elaine C. Anctil on June 14, 1958 in Nashua, N.H., later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on June 14, 2001.

In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean Conflict. Donald was an outdoorsman and was happy when he was in the woods, whether he was hunting, fishing or 4-wheeling. He had a talent for working with his hands, woodworking and painting. His greatest joy was in spending time with his wife and family, and his little buddy "Duke."

He is survived by wife, Elaine; children, Donald Fletcher of Boise, Idaho; Scott (Lydia) Fletcher of Price; Randy (Patty) Fletcher of Glendora, Calif.; Sherrie (Chuck) Davis of Price; grandchildren, Joshua, Joni, Julie, Jacob, Jordan, Lexi, Davey, Sarah, Farrah, Brandon, Brad, Bryon, Maria, Sky, Jack, Andrea, Harrison, Joe, Heather and Zoe; and one great-grandchild. Also survived by sister, Kathryn (Jim) Ward of Cleveland; and brothers, George (Phyllis) Fletcher of Walla Walla, Wash.; Dan (Dorothy) Black of Huntington; and Micki Fletcher of Sicklerville, N.J. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Leonard Fletcher; and sister, Deanne Jensen.

Services were Monday, Oct. 17, at the Cleveland LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Interment, Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

John Marsing

PRICE/SALT LAKE CITY - Our loving son, brother, nephew and dear friend, John Orson Marsing, age 52, passed away Oct. 4, 2005 from heart failure in Provo.

He was born Dec. 31, 1952 in Price to Jack (John) and Phyllis Daskalos Marsing. John was born into this world with many challenges.

He was a graduate of Granite High School in 1972 and a member of the LDS Church.

He loved music, movies, science, geography and math. John had a brilliant mind and a dry sense of humor. He was pure of heart and will be dearly missed by his family.

Survived by mother, Phyllis Marsing; sister, Lois Marsing; brother, Troy (Leslie) Marsing; three nieces, Chelsey, Mykela, Madyson; nephew, Martin; and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by father, Jack Marsing; grandparents, Orson and Maude Marsing; and John and Mary Daskalos.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to entire staff at Trinity Mission Health and Rehabilitation for 26 years of loving care they provided to John.

Memorial service will be Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.

Richard Smith

HELPER - Richard Arlen (Kinky) Smith, age 62, passed away Oct. 12, 2005 at Castleview Hospital while surrounded by family and friends.

He was born July 7, 1943 in Price to James and Stella Yelesnianski Smith. Married Frances Elizabeth Ori Aug. 25, 1967 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and SNPJ Lodge 689. Kinky worked at Spring Canyon Coal Company and with Utah Forest Service. Member of the Utah National Guard.

Kinky enjoyed horseshoes, playing cards, fishing, music, basketball, baseball and swimming. Kinky loved socializing with family and friends, teasing people and giving them nicknames.

Survived by wife, Frannie Smith, Helper; two brothers and four sisters, Jim Smith, Bastrop, Texas; Joyce Smith-Call, Pahrump, Nev.; Jeanne Day, Janis Aberle, Nancy Wiggains, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; John O'Green, Groveport, Ohio; and many loving nieces, nephews; godchildren; and a community of friends. Preceded in death by father; mother and stepfather, Stella and Ernie O'Green; and brother, Bobby Smith.

Funeral Mass Wednesday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony's Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to service.

Elva Rivas

PRICE - Elva Lynn Stevens Madsen Gallegos Rivas, age 57, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 in Provo.

She was born Nov. 27, 1947 in Salt Lake City to David Elvin and Vera Christensen Stevens. She married Cirilo Rivas in Genola on Dec. 31, 1987.

She lived in Price for many years. Received her R.N. degree from Westminster College on a full ride presidential scholarship. Received master's degree from University of Utah.

Her last job was helping the mentally challenged as director of nurses at the state mental hospital.

She was a national scholar. She was always in search of opportunities to further her education and a good book.

She is survived by husband, Cirilo Rivas; sons, Jessie Madsen; Larry Gallegos; Jared Gallegos; daughter, Sharla Gallegos; parents, Dee and Vera Stevens; and a whole family of brothers and sisters who will miss her.

Graveside services were Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Oasis Cemetery under the direction of Nickle Mortuary of Delta.

Carol Jewkes

ORANGEVILLE - Carol Elene McBride Jewkes, 53, passed away Oct. 13, 2005 at her home in Orangeville.

She was born Sept. 15, 1952 in Driggs, Idaho, to Walter and Lula Mecham McBride. She married Brian Jewkes on Sept. 13, 1974 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Carol was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a fabulous gardener who could make anything grow. She loved sewing and spending time in the mountains, but most of all, she found joy in her family.

She is survived by her husband, Brian; children, Kamey (Fletcher) Hope and Kalley (Nathan) Hardman, both of West Jordan; Lance (Stacy) Jewkes of Tooele; and Kurt Jewkes and Michael Jewkes, both of Orangeville; and four grandchildren. Also survived by mother, Lula McBride of Victor, Idaho; sisters, Moana (Eldon) Mikesell of Rawlins, Wyo.; Margaret (Ole) Widerburg of Rigby, Idaho; and brother, Richard (Virginia) McBride of Victor, Idaho. Preceded in death by father, Walter James McBride; and brothers, Robert Lynn McBride and Walter James "Jim" McBride.

Services were Monday, Oct. 17, in the Orangeville 2nd LDS Ward Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment, Orangeville Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale.

Victor Johnson

PRICE - Victor Aaron Johnson, 70, passed away Oct. 15, 2005 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City after suffering a stroke.

He was born Oct. 27, 1934 in Santaquin to Ethan and Thelma Christenson Johnson. He married Nellie Larsen on July 29 in the Manti LDS Temple.

He will be missed by all his family and friends who dearly loved him.

Victor is survived by wife, Nellie; children, Jude Johnson of California; Dale Johnson of Nevada; David (Vickie) Johnson of Pleasant Grove; Truda Zobel and Max (Autumn) Hard, both of Georgia; Stephanie (Jeremy) Mecham of Springville; Kristy (Billy) Lange of Price; and grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Mable Elliot of Idaho; brothers, Vern Johnson of Colorado; Neldon Johnson of Idaho; and Ned Johnson of Salt Lake. Preceded in death by parents; son, Mark; and sister, Darlene.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 20, 2 p.m., in the Price 9th Ward LDS Chapel. Friends are invited to call one hour prior to services. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Donations are being accepted in Victor's name and would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Fausett Mortuary for information.
