Planning, zoning board forwards requests to Wellington City Council

Wellington's planning and zoning commission met last Wednesday night to disucss city business.

The first item on the agenda was a request for a business license by Arnold Torres and Vern Stewart, who represented Hauhinco Trading.

The company is a hydro pump and valve company that services the mining industry.

The company has plans to move into the old Housekeeper building located near the Walkers truck stop at 1885 East Main Street in Wellington.

The planning board discussed the proposal, noting that the area is already zoned highway commercial.

After a brief discussion, the board approved the action and told Torres to present the business plans to the Wellington council at the city's next meeting for final approval.

The next item of business was a request for a kennel permit from Jack Greenemeir of 360 West Highway Drive.

After discussing the issue, the board told Greenemeir that the area was zoned residential commercial and a kennel permit could not be issued in the area.

Greenemeir agreed to remove two of his four dogs from his residence to comply with the city regulations.

Rhonda Olson and Amber Baker then asked the planning and zoning board for a business license to start a crafts and antique store at 75 East Main in Wellington.

The planning board noted that the area in question is properly zoned for such an enterprise and the members approved the action.

The petitioners were told to present their business plans to the city council for final approval.

The last item of business on the planning and zoning board agenda was from Paul Mullins, who represented property owner Max Conder.

The request was for permission to construct a 30 by 40 foot steel building at 440 West Main in Wellington.

The building is to be used as a residential garage, according to Conder's representative.

Mullins presented the board with drawings and plans for the building.

After checking to make sure the area was zoned R-17 residential, the board approved the action pending final approval by the city council.

The meeting was then adjourned.
