Soccer team barely loses to Lady Hawks

Carbon High girls soccer lost to North Sanpete last Thusday by a narrow one-point margin.
Tied just minutes before the end of the second half, the game seemed reminiscent to the Dinos 6-5 loss in overtime to the Hawks earlier in September.
On Thursday, the Dinos led the first half, leading by two at halftime. But a 4-3-3 formation in the second half let the Hawks break down Carbon's offense.
Goal scorers for Carbon included Kayla Namanny, Brenda Davis, Tabby Cummins, and Emilie Dunn.
"Our girls have worked so incredibly hard this year. They have been working out with me since March," said coach Dave Capalbo. Lots of 2-mile runs and 10-mile bike rides along with hours of sprints and calisthenics. They are finally able to finish most games strong instead of barely finishing."
North Sanpete's Aubree Poulson scored two goals while Arwen Lott, Trevlyn Jakins and Peni Francks scored one goal each.
The Dinos stand fourth in their region, with a 5-8-1 record overall and a 3-5-0 region record.
"The team has never won more than four games in a season," said Capalbo. "In fact, they have never won more than one region game in a season before. Most established programs don't remember when in their past they made such small steps toward making history like this."
Carbon heads into the last game of the season Tuesday against Juan Diego. The Soaring Eagles are undefeated in the region, with a 9-0-0 region record and 10-3-1 overall.
