Upper Colorado Basin forecast center predicts higher than average water levels

Water sports enthusiasts represent a familiar site at the lakes and reservoirs in the Castle Valley region.

The latest data released by the upper Colorado River Basin forecast center indicates that precipitation continues to register higher than average in the mountains surrounding Carbon County.

The center estimates the current water levels in Gooseberry and the Price River at 118 percent and 104 percent respectively. Price River and Gooseberry flows feed into Scofield Reservoir.

The supply estimates take into consideration current hydro-meteorological conditions and average basin temperatures as well as precipitation for the forecast period, pointed out the center.

Volume forecasts represent adjusted flows with upstream water usage taken into account.

The monthly Water Supply Outlook is issued from January through May by the forecast center. The outlook represents a coordinated effort between the National Weather Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the United States Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey and local water district managers.
