Big bats win it for Carbon in short game

Kyle Asay swings and hits a grand slam home run during a game with Emery High on Tuesday afternoon. Big bats contributed to the win.

It's running, jumping and throwing season at Carbon High as the track team has been practicing for the past few weeks to meet opponents on the field.

On March 8 Carbon participated in its first track meet of the season. The meet was held at Richfield and six schools participated in the competition. No team scores were kept for this meet.

Carbon did not have a lot of athletes participate due to the meet being held in the middle of the week.

Randy Jones led the boys in the throwing events by placing 4th in the javelin.

In the sprint events Brandon Hackwell placed 4th in both the 100 and 200 meter run. Kent Olson and Tyler Munns placed 6th in the 3200 meter and 800 meter run.

For the girls, Amie Stewart placed 2nd in the girls long jump, 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles and 1st in the 300 meter hurdles.

Allie Stewart placed 2nd in the high jump and 4th in the 100 meter hurdles.

Mikaleen Loveless placed 1st in the girls long jump while Marsha Jensen placed 6th in the girls shotput, while Alice Johnson placed 5th in the javelin.

On March 19 Carbon will host its big invitational meet of the year. There will be 20 or more teams participating.

That meet will be a qualifying meet and a lot of the top athletes from around the state will be participating.

The meet begins at 9 a.m. on Carbon High School track and it should be a good day to see high school track and field at its finest.
