An East Carbon player takes down a rebound against Tintic.

While the rest of the counties secondary schools are winding down their basketball season, by either handing in their uniforms or by going off to state, the East Carbon boys team is still in the thick of Region 18 play. That's because in the 1A ranks, state crossover games for the boys teams don't begin until the same weekend the 3A girls are holding their state tournament at the E Center in West Valley.

In the last two weeks the Vikings have been playing hard but their record has not improved. On Feb. 2 they played 8-1 West Desert and were blasted by the Hawks, 65-24. Then they traveled to Tintic last week and lost 70-56. On Tuesday night they played Dugway and took one of their worst losses of the season going down 92-36.

In all three games the team began a weak initial quarter. The most points the team scored in the first period in any game was four points.

In the West Desert game they didn't get above single digits in any quarter, while they played much better against Tintic putting up very respectable figures 18, 15 and 20 points for the second, third and fourth quarters respectively.

In the Dugway game they managed to put up 21 points in the second period but then sank again to only scoring 11 points in the entire second half.

The leading scorer for the team continues to be Kyle Leonard who topped everyone in all three games going for 17 against West Desert, 20 at Tintic and 15 in Dugway.

The teams only remaining home game is on Feb. 23 against Meridian at 6 p.m.
