United States Senator Jim Matheson offers an address during the 20th anniversary memorial of the Wilberg mine disaster at Emery High School. A crowd of approximately 500 gathered to honor the miners lost in the Dec. 19, 1984 tragedy. After a fire erupted approximately 5,000 feet from the main entrance of the Wilberg facility, 27 lives were taken, rocking the entire Carbon-Emery County mining community.
