A Carbon High grappler takes his opponent to the mat during a match at last weeks Carbon duels. Tough meets make Carbon ready for region competition.

The Carbon High wrestling team took on two events this past week. First they traveled to Union High School in Roosevelt to have a match with the Cougars and then this past weekend they met up with 29 other teams from five states for the Rocky Mountain Rumble at Orem High School.

The Union match was a good victory for the Carbon team as they beat the kids from Duchesne/Uintah counties 48-30.

The team had six pins in the match. Those that pinned their opponents were Trent Greenhalgh, Dustin Howa, Zack Burdick, Dallen McFarlane, Tim Lasslo and Nick Deeter.

Courtney Ivory and Ryan Leonard both also won by decision.

In the meet Carbon also won 23 of the 30 matches that were scheduled for the junior varsity as well.

The Rocky Mountain Rumble began on Friday and Carbon faced some stiff competition from much larger schools at the meet, but overall the team took 10th out of the 30 schools that were there.

McFarlane did the best overall by taking first in his weight class. Burdick finished second while Greenhalgh took fourth in his category. Leonard took sixth and Howa placed seventh.

While the Rocky Mountain Rumble has been held at Orem High School for many years, the sponsors of the event want to move it to Utah Valley State College next year.

The 2004 tournament included some new teams that increased the level of competition. The base of the tournament are teams from Utah, but surrounding states almost all send at least on team to the meet.
