Lady Dinos swat Wasps

In most years Wasatch High School puts up such a formidable girls basketball team that almost everyone fears to play them.
But apparently not this year.
Carbon, which has struggled in prior years to beat the Lady Wasps took them apart piece by piece on Friday night, and finally rang up a score of 62-42 at the end of the game. It was the biggest margin of victory a Carbon girls basketball team has registered over the Heber kids in a long time.
Part of the Lady Wasps problem might have been that they ventured into the Dinogym at exactly the wrong time in the preseason, finding themselves facing a very angry bunch of Dinos after the Carbon kids lost a game earlier in the week to Uintah, putting the only black mark on the ledger in the middle of the preseason.
The game began with Carbon's tough defense starting it's engine right from the beginning. According to many, that defense was what went wrong in Vernal, so the team would have none of that in this game.
By the end of the quarter Carbon led 12-8.
Again in the second quarter, Wasatch would bring the ball down court and start to set up their plays when a white and blue clad hand or leg would get in the way of a pass and the race to the other end of the court would begin. Many times Carbon won that race. When the second period ended, Carbon was up 31-16.
At the beginning of the third period it appeared that Wasatch might make a game of it. They came out and made a couple of quick baskets, and began to cut into the lead.
But Carbon just applied the pressure again and it seemed every time down the court Wasatch would turn it over. The Lady Dinos outscored the opposition 20-9 in the third period.
In the fourth quarter, Carbon Coach Bruce Bean began substituting pretty freely. At one point he replaced one entire unit for another. Wasatch was too far gone to come back by that time, but showed spunk in putting up more points than the home team, 17-11.
Once again Morgan Warburton led the way for the Lady Dinos scoring 29 points, but more importantly took the Wasps right out of their game with seven steals as well as eight rebounds. Halee Rasmussen had 14 points.
The Carbon girls team is now 4-1, and pushing to not lose another game this year.
On Tuesday night they face Cedar City (3-1) at home. Cedar beat Lehi 67-43 on Friday night and is considered one of the strongest teams in the southwest part of the state this year.
