Melting snowpack signals drought

Only thin patches of snow remain in the mountains surrounding Carbon County. It won't be long before the moisture seeps into the soil and moves downstream. Castle Valley and Utah are entering into a fourth consecutive drought year. Officials are calling on residents to conserve and use the precious commodity carefully. As the end of the traditional snowfall season approaches, the best the county and state can hope for are strong spring rains to help replenish dwindling water supplies.
