C.A.R.E. Program - The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer's Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer's Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Arthritis/Fibromyalgia Course - This six-week comprehensive course will be hosted by Therapy Works, 53 South 700 East in Price on Sept. 14-19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Earthquake Seminar - "Not If, When" will be presented on September 16 at 7 p.m. in the Price Civic Auditorium. ATV Designated Maps - are now available from Helper Police Department. Maps can be picked up at 97 South Main, Helper. Pick up between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Educational Opportunity Center - CEU has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice as well as assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. The service is free and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Helper City Community Development Committee - All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to acquire a new Helper City Community Pool.

Free Legal Clinic - In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. The clinic is from 11 am until 2 pm and you may call 800-622-1563 to set up an appointment or just show up and we will fit you in. Casa Volunteers Needed - Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA Coordinator, at (435) 381-5595.

Frontier Project - A local Family Support Group, Frontier Family F.U.T.U.R.E.S. meets every third Thursday in Carbon County. This is an organized parent education and support group. Anyone interested is invited to participate. Meetings begin at 7:00 at the Castle Valley Center, 755 North Cedar Hills Dr. in Price. Childcare and refreshments are available. The Frontier Project is also recruiting respite providers and mentors for youth and families. Do you have an hour a week to give to a child? Foster Grandparents - Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Frontier Project - Local Family Support Group. R.O.A.R. will be meeting every third Thursday in Carbon County. Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 10 North 200 East. Carbon County Animal Services - Residents are encouraged to bring recycled newspapers and aluminum to the office at 3360 S. 225 West, Price. Donations will be used for homeless pets.

Carbon County Food Bank - Hours are Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For information on donating, volunteering or applying, contact the food bank at 637-9232.

Golden Rule Mission - Donate your garage/yard sale leftovers to the Golden Rule Mission in Helper. We will pick up, call 472-2631. Tax deductible.

Parenting for teens - The Family Support and Children's Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Helper Library - Fall and winter hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Closed daily from 2:30-3:00 p.m. Closed Friday and Sunday. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.

Women's Bible Study Group - Interdenominational, interactive. Mondays 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the lower fellowship hall of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Price Library - Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Close Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. Murphy's Dilema: come in and read one on one with a PAWS dog. You must be 6-12 years old and be registered ahead of time.

CEU Library -Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m; Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hours vary during breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.

Family Support & Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281.

Events

Kiwanis Kids Day - Sept. 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Price City Park. All kids 12 and under are invited. Food, games, climbing wall, prizes and it is all free!

Oktoberfest - Notre Dame Church will present Oktoberfest on October 2 in the Notre Dame School gymnasium. Food will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Other activities will include a pastry booth, silent auction and raffle, grocery giveaway and games. Come and bring your family for a day of food, fun and games.

Concert on the Lawn - Sept. 12 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Notre Dame School, 210 North 600 East in Price. Concert is free. Spaghetti dinner will be served from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for a donation of $5/plate or $20/family. Have dinner, relax on the lawn, listen to local musical groups perform contemporary and traditional christian music. Chairs will be provided, playground for the kids, bring a jacket and the whole family!

Women's Aglow - Neighborhood Lighthouse would like to cordially invite you for a cup of coffee, tea or your favorite refreshment. The coffee or tea is on us! Economic Summit - Emery County's 2004 Economic Summit "What's Swell in Emery County" will be held Sept. 14 at the County Office Building in Castle Dale. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration can be completed with Emery County Economic Development, 381-5576. Keynote address will be given by Jon Huntsman, Jr. and several breakout sessions will be held.

Recovery Month Celebration - Carbon County celebrates Recover Month on September 10 at 5:00 p.m. in the Price Peace Gardens in downtown Price. Speakers will include Mayor Piccolo, Bob Greenberg, enforcement officials and others. Music featuring Rock n'Country starts at 7:00 p.m. and is free to the public. Snack Bar opens at 5:00 p.m. and proceeds go to the Carbon County Drug Court.

Yard Sale/Bake Sale - by Active Re-Entry and Community Action Resource Committe VISTA Volunteers to benefit Perkie Travels. The sale will be held on Sept. 24 & 25 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Active Re-Entry offices, 10 S. Fairgrounds Rd. in Price. All proceeds go to Perkie Travels, a non-profit service that transports Carbon and Emery patients to Provo daily for radiation treatments. Anyone with items to donate may drop them off at Active Re-Entry before Sept. 17 or to have the items picked up call the VISTA Volunteers at Re-Entry at 637-4950. All donations and purchases are tax deductible.
