Carbon Country Club golf course, hole four

| The long and straight second fairway gives player a great opportunity to rip their driver. |
Although the tree-lined second and third holes of the Carbon Country Club golf course look similar, players will be kinder to their scorecards by understanding the layout of each hole before they bring out their clubs.
According to head pro Tom King, the second hole of the course is as straight as it looks.
"There's no hidden secrets," he pointed out. "It's just a straight away par four."
In fact, King claims that the 423 yard hole is the straightest one on the course and is perfectly set up for driver.
King advises that players hit the ball as far as the can to leave the closest possible approach shot. The large trees on either side are a player's only obstacle.
The green is sloped from back to front and golfers should make sure to keep the ball below the hole for an optimal putt.
The 402 yard third hole is also a par four. Although it is ranked as the number 11 handicap hole on the course, King said its rating should be more difficult based on the addition of the new, three-tiered green.
The ideal shot off the tee is a small fade with driver or three wood to follow the contour of the slight dog-leg right hole.
There is a lateral hazard on the left side that runs along the entire hole, and is particularly in play near the green.
King said the biggest thing to worry about on an approach shot is hitting the ball to the correct tier of the green.
The toughest pin placement is the middle tier. Players should also beware of a back right pin placement. Make sure to hit enough club to get there but don't hit long or right into the heavy shrubbery.
Landing in the shrubbery could lead to a lost ball.
According to the USGA rules of golf, "if a ball is lost or is out of bounds, the player must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played."
In the future, players can expect the addition of fairway bunkers on both holes.
The course currently has a special from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for 18-holes with a cart. Contact the golf shop to schedule a tee time.
