Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Education Certificate Classes - Utah State Parks and Recreation will offer the classes aimed at youth ages 8 to 16 who operate ATV's and motorbikes. Class certification makes the child legal to drive on public lands, trails and roads. Classes are being offered at Carbon County Fairgrounds August 16th. Food Handler's Classes - for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli's. Classes will be taught in Price on August 19 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will be taught in Castle Dale on August 12 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 West Main Street. Block C on Wood Hill - The Carbon Class of 1954 is planning it's 50th Class Reunion on August 21. Is there anyone out there who has the pride and equipment to paint the Block "C" or "Cs" on Wood Hill? Mayor Joe Piccolo has said the City will pay for the paint, but does not have the needed equipment to accomplish the task. It would, certainly, improve the looks of Wood Hill and would mean a lot to many people, local residents and out of town visitors, let alone reflect the pride we have in our community. Educational Opportunity Center - CEU has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice as well as assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. The service is free and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Helper City Community Development Committee - All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. Free Legal Clinic - In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Casa Volunteers Needed - Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Foster Grandparents - Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Family Support & Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. King Crawlers 4x4 Challenge will be held Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. south of the motocross track. Advance tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for 6-12 years olds. At the gate the charge will be $9.00 for adults and $6.00 for 6-12 years olds.
The Challenge is designed to test 4x4's in as many off road venues as we can. For this our first year there will be three classes of 4x4's battling it out over our mountain of rocks, the bottomless mud bog and the tug of war.
Our goal is to give the spectators a great show and the competitors a place to show off and test the skills of there 4x4's. So if you like what deep mud, big rocks, lots of horse power, and a 4x4 can do come compete or watch the show.

Carbon County Fair Rodeo - The Rodeo will be held August 13-14 at 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the County Fair. Jr. Barrels will begin at 6:30 p.m. each night for youth wanting to compete. Registration will begin at 6:00. A fee of $5 will be charged per participate with all the monies going into the pot for top placings. VFW Field Service Officer Visit - On August 12 a Field Service Officer from the VFW Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States to qualify for assistance.
