Carbon adds to winning streak, remains undefeated in region

Mike Smith and Chase Julian check a Delta runner with a big lead. Carbon defeated the Rabbits 6-3 to continue an eight-game winning streak.

The Dinos extended their winning streak to eight games Tuesday night at the Carbon High diamond against the Delta Rabbits.

Carbon matched a Delta run in the top of the first inning with a Troy Grundy RBI single in the bottom.

Dino pitcher Mike Smith then retired 12 consecutive Rabbit batters and kept Delta scoreless into the fifth inning.

Carbon, meanwhile, was able to add three runs in the second.

Tyler Nelson sparked Carbon's offense, recording two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases in the game.

Delta threatened to even the score in the fifth when a walk and a hit put Rabbits on the bases and hit up the alley drove both in.

Carbon quieted the surge, though, with a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning.

The Dinos would add two more runs while Carbon closer Adam Martinez shut down Delta scoring.

The final score was 6-3

The Dinos have cycled through all Region 8 opponents and are 4-0 in the conference.

Delta fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Carbon will return from spring break to play Davis on April 15 at Carbon.

Game time is 3:30 p.m.
