Carbon's Brittany Pollastro awaits the throw at first to complete a double play after a line-drive snag caught Emery's Misha Addley off guard.

The Lady Dinos narrowly beat out Emery's Lady Spartans in a 16-15 slugfest to open the Region 8 season.

Carbon Head coach Tony Pinedo said the game was characterized by lots of walks, hits and errors.

Despite taking an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the second, Carbon couldn't match Emery's four runs in the top of the third. The teams entered the fourth inning tied 8-8.

The teams traded the lead right until the end of the game. Emery scored four runs in the top of the seventh and pressured Carbon with a 15-13 lead.

Luckily, the Lady Dinos started at the top of the lineup in the bottom of the seventh.

Lead off Brooke Herrick began with a walk and stole second.

Morgan Warburton hit a single to score Herrick and took advantage of a Spartan error to reach third.

Brittany Pollastro reached on an error, scoring Warburton to tie the game.

Catcher Halee Rasmussen doubled to score the winning run.

"It was an ugly game, but last year we lost 20-19," Pinedo commented. "I felt better to be on the winning end of things."

Carbon improved to 7-5 on the year and 1-0 in Region 8.

The Lady Dinos are on the road today against Lehi.

The team will host North Sanpete on April 1. Game time is 3 p.m.
