Teammates Chris Howes and Derrek Marrelli out jump a Union defender to head the ball upfield toward the Carbon goal. The Dinos won 3-2.

After a 5-1 loss against Granite on March 3, Dino soccer redoubled its efforts for Tuesday's match against Union.

The result was a 3-2 win in the final minute of the game.

Midway through the first half, Todd Palmer laced the ball past Union defenders, scoring the first goal of the game.

Moments later, Union countered with a goal of their own, lobbing a shot over the reach of Carbon goalie Jake Denison.

The teams would enter the half tied 1-1.

Union undid the tie, getting a 2-1 edge to start the second half. But, that would be the last goal the Cougars would score.

Carbon's defensive line, along with a strong performance by Denison, stopped Union scoring and made room for Nathaniel Woodward and Palmer to score two more Carbon goals before the whistle sounded.

According to head coach Timothy Palmer, the score did not indicate how much Carbon dominated the game.

"We outplayed the team in every aspect and controlled the ball for the majority of the game," Palmer commented.

Palmer said the team has already shown a 75 percent improvement over last year's team, a transformation he attributes to a young assistant coaching staff.

He added that having young coaches who have significant game experience really boosts the player's abilities.

"That's what we haven't had in this area," Palmer noted. "People returning to the program."

Dino soccer will hit the busses today for three consecutive away games against Springville, Grantsville and American Fork.

The team will host Grand on March 19. The varsity game begins at 3:30 p.m.
