Dean Pulley

PRICE - Dean Charles Pulley, age 77, passed away Feb. 21, 2004 at his home in Price.

He was born Oct. 18, 1926 in Egin, Idaho, to Charles Morgan and Ethel L. White Pulley. Married Marilyn Lewis in 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. Later divorced. Married Katherine L. Saiz Feb. 19, 2000 in Mesquite, Nev.

Dean loved fishing, golfing, shooting pool and working in his garden. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He will be dearly missed by all.

Survived by wife, Katherine S. Pulley, Price; three daughters and two sons, Lynette (Ron) McDowell, Orangevale, Calif.; Ryan (Jeanie) Pulley, Pleasant Grove; Sheryl (Steve) Towers, Yuba City, Calif.; Gayle (Frank) Sterzinar, Reno, Nev.; David Pulley and David McKnight, Reno, Nev.; two stepsons, James Guerra, Salt Lake City; Preston (Brandy) Garner, Killeen, Texas; four sisters, Verlene (Ernie) Grover, Sunset; Arva (Pete) Christensen, Ennis, Mont.; Belva (Dennis) Bradshaw, Bountiful; Janet (Kay) Cordingley, Rexburg, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; and sister, Donna Marie Pulley.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Melissa, Angie, Robin, Margaret, Nancy, Laura and Albert of Rocky Mt. Hospice, Randy of Praxair and last but not least Clorinda Cordova for her loving care.

Funeral service Thursday, Feb. 26, 2 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Thursday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell's daily. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.


Gerry Snowball

PRICE - Geraldine Coleman Snowball, age 81, passed away Feb. 22, 2004 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.

She was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Wellington to Pernal Alonzo and Virl Irene Lawson Coleman. Married Jack W. Snowball Aug. 18, 1978 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Member of the LDS Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Gerry was a warm and loving person who lived life to the fullest, and she made sure that those around her did the same. Her greatest enjoyment was traveling with her loving husband, Jack. Gerry will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.

Survived by husband, Jack Snowball, Price; daughter, Ginger (Dale) Bradley, Granbury, Texas; son, Jerry L. "Johnny" (Ann) Dubois, Price; stepdaughters, Darlene Gibson, Burley, Idaho; Jacqueline (Alan) Majors, New Orleans, La.; Mary Helen (Jerry) Shiew, Price; four sisters and four brothers, Leta (Jim) Redford, Orlando, Fla.; Fawn Salzetti, Price; Perry Alonza Coleman, Carlsbad, N. Mex.; Maxine Braby, Columbia; Danny Coleman, Price; Tom (Lucy) Coleman, Mankota, Minn.; Bobby (Sarah) Coleman, Karen "Kaye" Evans, both of Salt Lake City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Russell, Bud and Jack Coleman; and sisters, Rose and "Baby".

Funeral service Thursday, Feb. 26, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be Mitchell's Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.


Kirk Johansen

CASTLE DALE - Kirk Johansen, age 60, passed away suddenly Feb. 22, 2004 in Castle Dale while doing what he loved (working alongside his wife on the ranch caring for the cattle).

He was born Sept. 4, 1943 in Price to Byron C. and Agnes Udella Peterson Johansen. Kirk married Julie Olsen Dec. 26, 1965 in Elko, Nev. Later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

As an active member of the LDS church, he served in numerous callings and had a special love for the Book of Mormon and teaching the youth, in and out of the church. He received a bachelors degree in animal science and later received a teaching certificate at Utah State University. Kirk was multi-talented, performing as John in the Castle Valley Pageant for 24 years and numerous other productions, or writing and reading cowboy poetry and square dancing. More than anything else, he found joy with his family, working on the ranch and chasing grandkids. They spent many, many happy hours together in Joe's Valley. His life and living was made working the land in his beloved Emery County.

Kirk is survived by wife, Julie of Castle Dale; mother-in-law, Lecta Olsen; children, Trudy and Guy Webster of Green River; Ryan and Darcy Johansen of Lawrence; Shannon and Cory Cloward of Spanish Fork; Kari and Daren Ewell of Lawrence; Mistie and Kirk Christiansen of Emery; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also survived by sisters, Pat, Ina Lee, Zora, Jean, Kay and Sunny. Preceded in death by parents.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 25, 11 a.m. in the Castle Dale LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, located at 165 W. 8th North in Castle Dale. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial, Castle Dale Cemetery.


Reed Alger

PRICE - Reed J. Alger, age 77, passed away Feb. 21, 2004 in Price after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born Sept. 4, 1926 in Provo to Leo and Marie Price Alger. Reed married Myrna Davis in 1950 and they had four children.

He graduated from the U of U in electrical engineering after serving as a Marine during World War II and Korea. After retirement, he and Myrna spent their winters in Arizona, rock hounding, making jewelry and enjoying the many friends they made. Myrna passed away in 1999.

Reed is survived by two children, Denise Fuller of Salt Lake City; Reed "Lee" Alger of Price; and three grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers, Ray Alger and Glen Alger; and sister, Janice Cracroft. In addition to his dear wife, Reed was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Vincent Alger and one brother, Boyd.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Feb. 28, 11 a.m., at Fausett Mortuary in Price.


Mary Wooden

SPRING GLEN - Mary Lou Brewer Wooden, age 80, passed away Feb. 19, 2004 at home while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 16, 1924 in Chandler, Okla. to John Luther and Mintie Hendersen Brewer. Married Winfield Scott Wooden Nov. 25, 1941 in Wheeler, Texas.

Mary's greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and she cherished the Sunday dinner that she shared with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Mary had a wonderful personality and warmth about her, that made everyone she met feel so special. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new friends and fishing in Lake Powell. Mary will be missed by her family, many snow bird friends from all over the world and her special companion, "Jim," the quaker parrot whom she dearly loved.

Survived by husband, Winfield Wooden; daughter, Jo Ann (Vink) Tolich, both of Helper; son, Scott (Ginny) Wooden, Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Louise (Charles) Hamilton, Helper; sisters-in-law, Goldie Webster, Price; Juanita Deans, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law, Melvin Wooden, Oklahoma; Joe Wooden, Texas; sister-in-law, Priscilla Lombard, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Bill and Jim; and sister, Sue.

Funeral service was Monday, Feb. 23, at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.


LaVon Nielson

ELMO - Our beloved LaVon Jones Nielson, 94, passed away peacefully on Feb. 20, 2004 at the Turnquist Home in Elmo with her children at her side.

She was born June 19, 1909 in Huntington, to Elem Lucian and Ada Cornelia Sherman Jones. She married Glen Ford Nielson June 8, 1931 in Huntington. Later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in November of 1948.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing and was a beautiful homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest joy and accomplishment in her life was being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by children, Peggy Collard of St. George; and Julie Black of Grantsville. She also had 11 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Glenda Hunt of Oregon; and three brothers, Sherman Jones of Ogden; Blake Jones of Huntington; and B Jones of Price. She was preceded in death by husband; daughter, Jerry Childs Phillips; and a great-granddaughter, Gracie Goodworth.

Funeral services were Feb. 23 at the Huntington LDS Stake Center under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. Interment at the Huntington Cemetery.


Jewell Wall

SPRING GLEN - Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Jewell Beall Wall, age 91, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at her daughter's home in Spring Glen.

Born May 19, 1912 in Eva, Ala. to John Gainer and Della Reid Beall. She was the 12th of 16 children. Married Orval K. Wall Nov. 10, 1933 in Jerome, Idaho. He passed away Dec. 15, 2002. They had five children, Robert (Shirlene) Wall, Salt Lake City; Ernie Wall, Sterling, Ak.; Darlene (Robert) Olson, Spring Glen; Nathan (Barbara) Wall, San Jose, Calif.; and Delbert Wall, McCammon, Idaho.

Mom enjoyed spending time with her family and fishing in Blackfoot, Idaho and Alaska. She was a member of the Jerome Art Guild. She loved to oil paint and entered and won many ribbons in the Jerome County Fair. She crocheted many items including dish towels that she loved to share with friends and family. She enjoyed going to Jackpot and Mesquite and playing the slot machines. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and cheering for the Atlanta Braves and her Oakland Raiders. Mom and Dad enjoyed spending 24 winters in Quartzsite, Ariz. and Florida.

She is survived by one brother, Tommy (Gladys) Beall of Portland, Ore.; five children, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, husband, 14 brothers and sisters, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial to celebrate mom's life will be Friday, Feb. 27 at noon, at the Carbonville LDS Ward, located at 1985 W. 4000 North, Spring Glen. The family will be at the church on Friday, 11:30 a.m. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Special Olympics.
