Black cats represent more than traditional sign of Halloween to some groups

Black cats are the symbol of the Halloween haunting season. But for some groups, the felines represent an animal that should be sacrificed at the present time of year. For that reason, the Carbon Animal Shelter will not adopt out black cats until Nov. 3. However, all other cats and animals at the shelter may be adopted by residents. Shelter director Patti Pierce indicates that the local facility also has to be careful about adopting out white cats in March because some groups use the felines as sacrifices for the Vernal equinox, which usually occurs about March 21.
