A Mont Harmon athlete breaks through a tackle from a Helper Ram defender during last week's championship game. Helper captured the junior high football title by the final score, 32-8.

The Helper Junior High Rams football team completed an undefeated season on the gridiron last Wednesday with a convincing 32-8 victory over Mont Harmon in Helper.

This was the seventh straight win for the Rams and the second undefeated season in the last three years for Helper coach, Phil Howa and his assistants Kay Dimick, Barry Deeter and Jim Noyes.

As in previous games this year, last week's contest featured long distance scoring plays by the Helper backfield.

The Rams grabbed an early 12-0 lead in the first quarter and Mont Harmon struck back to cut the margin to 12-8 with a touchdown of their own.

On the ensuing kickoff after the Pirates had scored, Brandon Wilson gathered in the kick at the 20-yard line and raced 80 yards to the Mont Harmon goal line to erase any hopes of the Pirates scoring a victory.

Wilson and Colton Howes alternated at the quarterback position with Howes reeling off several long gains reminiscent of his season long performance.

Adding additional speed to the Ram backfield was Adam Archer.

Defensively, Helper's line is anchored by Jay Workman along with Phil Lodeserto, JD Sherman, Willy Hill and James McKendrick.

For Mont Harmon, JJ Blue played well at quarterback while Robee Muncy had a successful game at halfback and Kyle Asay and Bren Pruitt each performed well.

Looking ahead, it seems as if Carbon High will have a talented football team next season as athletes from both Helper and Mont Harmon will join the high school roster.

The final junior high game of the year will take place October 22 in Helper beginning at 4 p.m. as the eighth grade teams from Helper and Mont Harmon compete.
