Sam Leonard of the East Carbon Rotary Club hands out dictionaries to third grade students at Petersen Elementary as part of a program that supplies the books to students around the nation. The program was put together by Jim Robertson when he heard about it from Rotary International. The club passed out 48 dictionaries to all third graders who now can take them home to use. The program began when a woman in South Carolina realized that the children in her school needed dictionaries and decided to buy one for every third grader in the school. The idea eventually spread through all of South Carolina and when the National Rotary Club found out about it they expanded the program around the country.
