Outside hitter Jordan Fox hammers the ball at the opposition during the season opening alumni game. CEU returns home after several disappointing road games to play Dixie and Snow at CEU. These matches will be the team's first conference games and will set the tone for the 2003 season.

Hitting errors ended a strong Lady Eagles start against Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday.

CEU fell to the Lady Spartans in four games, after a first game win.

"We came out fired up and won game one pretty handily," Coach Brent Martindale said. "But, we could never decrease our hitting errors."

CEU had only seven hitting errors in the first game at WWCC. However, 10 hitting errors in the second game and 15 in the third game took away the Eagle's momentum.

"A hitting error is just an automatic point for the other team under the rally system," Martindale commented. "We cannot do that anymore."

Sophomore Jordan Fox lead the team in kills with 14, followed by Emily Bowles with 12, Amy Fluckiger with 10 and Sandra Sorenson with nine.

Martindale said he was very impressed with the play of Fluckiger and Bowles.

"They had the best all around matches by middles that I have seen in years," Martindale added. "They both blocked well and did a really great job."

This week's back-to-back home game matches against Dixie and Snow will be the first conference games for the Lady Eagles.

Martindale said it is a big weekend for CEU volleyball.

"We really need to beat them to get the season back on tilt," Martindale concluded.

The Dixie match begins Friday at 7 p.m, followed by the Saturday match against Snow, beginning at 3 p.m.
