DELTA/HELPER - Katherin Marie Penovich Winters, age 90, passed away on Aug. 26, 2014 in Delta . She was born Sept. 1, 1923 in Wattis to Joseph (Yovo) Penovich and Katie Marie Mikulas Penovich. She Married Lester Winters in Las Vegas, Nev. on March 1, 1942.
Katherine was raised in the coal mining camps of Carbon County and loved telling stories of her youth. After her marriage to Lester, she worked at Lockheed Defense in California while Lester served in the Navy during World War II. After the war they made their home in Martin where their two children Ronald and Debra where born.
Katherine loved taking care of her family and enjoyed visiting with her friends. She was an avid bowler, loved fishing especially with her sister Joanne and looked forward to her trips to Wendover. She spent the last two years of her life as a resident of the Millard County Rehabilitation Center where she made many friends and was well taken care of by the nurses and staff.
She is survived by her son Ronald (Shari) of Delta, grandchildren; Jason (Ashley) Gendale Ariz., Clint (Melissa) Richfield, (Chad ( Meladie) Cedar City, Michelle (Scott) Jensen Richland Wash., Jonathan (Erin) Delta, and Heather (Nick) Erwin, Casa Grande Ariz., her sister Betty June Wheeler, sister-in-law LaRene Ockey and 20 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lester, daughter Debra, son-in-law Robert Harrison, siblings Anges James, Ruth Dillon, Joanne, Bob and Joe Penovich.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at 1 pm at the Helper LDS Chapel (150 Ridgeway St). A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from Noon-1 p.m. at the chapel.
