A six-inch water line break forced the closure of the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center last Thursday afternoon, according to USU Eastern Athletic Director Dave Paur.

The flooding occurred on Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m., Paur said, after an employee noticed the water filling the building. Some offices and areas of the building had as much as three to four inches of water in them.

"We're lucky it happened in the afternoon," Paur said, noting the damages could have been worse if it occurred over the weekend.

Construction equipment was seen outside the BDAC on Friday morning as workers began digging up an area next to the building to try and locate the water line.

While some areas of the building were hit hard, Paur noted the gymnasium and the dance studio as well as some offices were not affected by the water leak.

On Monday morning, signs were still posted that the building was still closed for clean up. Paur said he hopes that the building will be cleaned and back to regular use by Wednesday as the college begins another school year this week.
